Fantastic product for the price. Pair it with the Little Giant Condensate Pump, and you have a killer combination.
My
one big complaint about it (and the reason for losing a star) is that
it does not have an intake hose for the bottom half of the unit.
Instead it relies on indoor air. This does two things, first it will
suck cool air out of your house and blow it outside, the other thing it
does is will put your house under slight negative pressure, this will
draft in warm air from outside (it can also bring in unwanted things,
like smoke if someone is smoking near a window or door). Even if they
didn't sell the intake hose with the unit, I would have liked to have
had the option to set it up, as I think it would improve the efficiency
significantly, as well as avoiding the drafting issue.
But, hey, it's $300. Most of the dual hose options are around $500.
The
other minor quibble is that I wish that the filters were a bit better,
and easier to clean. They do an okay job with larger particles (dust),
but anything fine (pollen/etc) will mostly just blow right through. You
have to remove the hose to get to the filters, which isn't a huge
hassle but is an extra step that's a bit annoying.
We are using
it to cool a 650 square foot unit, and even on the occasional hot days
(100*) it does a pretty good job of keeping up. We needed a fan to push
the cool air down a hallway and into the other rooms (the built in fans
are quite impressive with how much air they can move, you just can't
expect them to bend air around a corner). If our climate (Pacific
Northwest) had more regular hot days, or we had a larger unit, I don't
think a unit of this size would be able to keep up. It's probably
*slightly* small for our purpose, but it's close enough for our needs.
We've been running this constantly since we bought it (over two months now), and have had no issues with it so far.
