**FIRSTLY** I would suggest buying
ANY AC at a retail store. Reasoning behind this is that it can
potentially be damaged during transport. USPS/UPS/FED EX workers arent
as careful with heavier (though this isnt very heavy) packages and the
potential for your item to be damaged is high.
In my case some
cosmetic damaged occurred in the back grating (which faces outside the
window) some of the grating was bent and not uniform. You also take the
risk of the internal parts being damaged in transport/shipping so this
is why I would suggest if able to purchase at a retail store.
Now on to my personal experience and review.
Review:
I have had this AC for almost 2 months. It is small and kind of light.
When looking inside of the AC through the airflow vent you can see a lot
of styrofoam and the (in my case) blue fan spinning.
I would not
suggest getting this AC UNLESS youre ONLY trying to cool a smaller
bedroom or room it is ONLY 5,000 BTU's.(but you knew that already)
My
complaint and the reason this only gets 3 stars is because the
compressor ONLY goes on when its on MAX COOL (the knob turned up to 7)
If
the temperature knob is on 5 (and sometimes 6) setting it just blows
air (compressor doesnt kick on) so the numbers from 1 to 5 are all
BASICALLY THE SAME in its cold air output WHICH IS *NO COLD AIR* output,
its just like having the fan on.
On the number 6 setting it does blow out cold air and the compressor does go on but not always!
So
essentially the ONLY way this is able to cool your *small room* would
be to have this on 7 all the time. (not a big deal but just a FYI)
I
usually have this on LOW COOL and it does a fairly decent job of
cooling off my SMALL ROOM which is about 12 by 20 in its size (12 feet
by 20 feet)
On LOW COOL and the temperature knob on MAX COOL (7) this is a fairly quiet AC. Its not very noisy and I appreciate that!
On
the HIGH fan setting it does get a bit louder (as the fan is working
harder) but again its fairly quiet and I am pleased with it as far as
noise (or lack there of noise)
The filter slides off to the right
of the AC so I would set the AC in the window off center to the left
enabling you to get it out so you can clean it.
The direction
vents are *coils* and though while not terrible I prefer the old school
air vents/slats with the left, right , up , down directional vents. Cold
air falls so I would love to have had the vents pointed in the
direction of the ceiling and to have more control of where the air flow
is being directed.
Overall for the price (under $150) it does a
decent job and I am pleased with it so far. I would say its not made of
the highest quality materials and is fairly cheap in its construction,
but still gets the job done being the temperature knob is set all the
way to 7/MAX COOL.
Its not the best AC but for what I need it for
its perfect. I JUST HOPE IT LASTS MORE THAN 2,3 years (during seasonal
use I live in NYC)
5 Stars for size and weight
5 Stars for sound /noise of fan (IMO quiet)
3 Stars for cold air output (not great but does the job for a SMALL room)
2 Stars for construction
4 Stars for Energy consumption
