Review LG Electronics LW1515ER

The air conditioner itself is great with one exception: As someone else mentioned there seems to be a design flaw where the front grill compresses the plastic fan and makes it scrape against the Styrofoam, making a loud scraping noise. With the grill off, this noise disappears.

My solution was to remove the foam on the inside of the front grill so that it doesn't fit so tightly. With that noise gone, the units is fairly quiet (sounds like a large fan). The unit is powerful and we use it to cool off the common areas of our 2,200 sq foot rancher with 12 foot vaulted ceilings. We don't keep things icy cold but that is personal preference.

A High Quality unit that will cool a large space. We've installed it in a 26x26 room with high ceilings. It does very well and is able to reach a temperature and then shut off. That's when our problems begin. In energy saving mode, this unit will turn on every 3 minutes to cycle the air in the room and determine if it needs to cool again.

That's the problem, it's not exactly quiet, and it causes us trouble trying to go to sleep at night. LG should have made the 3 minute interval a user configurable setting, or something with a larger delay. The problem is it feels like it is constantly cycling, 3 minutes is a rather short interval.

You may agree or disagree, but the fact is, it does bother us when we are trying to go to sleep. What we do now is run the unit, turn it off and set the timer to 1 hr so it comes on after we have fallen asleep. That seems to be the only workaround to the constant turn on / off every 3 minute cycling. BAD DESIGN
