Frigidaire FFRA0511Q1 Revews AC 2015

If you are looking for a air conditioner that is quiet this is the one. If you are looking for one that creates frigid air this is NOT the one. We forget that the "Freeon" many of us remember as being frigid is no longer on the market for environmental reasons.

I bought this to help cool my duplex (1000 sq ft) in the heat of the summer in Western Oregon. This year we have had numerous days that exceeded 90 degrees with our typical higher humidity. I found that by placing a fan in the doorway of my bedroom I am able to be comfortable on the 90-100 degree days. Without a fan that would not happen.

This units fan is not as strong as some I remember from previous units I have owned but it does work well. Very easy to install with just a Phillips screwdriver. There is no remote and just basic low-high settings. I placed this unit in my bathroom window so as to send the cold air into my bedroom and it does just that. My bathroom is about 8x8 and my bedroom is 14x14 and as I stated it does cool the living room as well. I imagine if I had a long hallway it would not project as far even with a fan in the doorway. I am completely satisfied.

Installed this little fella in my bedroom yesterday. So far, so good! Am using it to cool my bedroom to an acceptable temperature for sleep at night. My room is on the terminal end of the duct work in my 2800 sq ft loft with open space and 14 ft ceilings. I have 2 four ton units cooling the place, but for some reason, even after adjusting dampers to improve flow and having my roof painted white with solar reflective pain, my room was always a couple degrees hotter than the rest of the house. Until now, I was cooling 1400 sq feet overnight unnecessarily, just to get my 140 sq ft room to be comfortable.

The problem is that my windows aren't sliding sash; they are old school house windows that have a fixed dimension. After measuring the window and doing a lot of research, I concluded that the dimensions on this unit would allow for a relatively uncomplicated install. Paid a handyman $75 to do the install (worth every penny and I would have paid twice that amount in a heartbeat), then fashioned a foam core facade to seal off the window from inside. Not sure if the HOA is going to have an issue with this unit or not. Instead of asking for permission now, I'll just request forgiveness later if they don't like it :-)

Anyhoo, now, I can just power this baby on when I need my room cooled and rest easy. I like the fact that it's pretty bare bones in terms of functionality. It does make a little bit of noise, but not annoyingly so. No different than having an oscillating fan running all night. Hopefully, I'll get several years' use out of it. Can't argue with the price, either .
