I had a Toyotomi portable AC before, lasted me 10 years before it conked out.. now that old 10K btu is a large, glorified fan.
I
have no idea how long this new SPT 8K will last, but we got it last
night, assembled it pretty fast, and wham! after a few minutes, it was
actually much cooler indoors than out, near hot downtown Los Angeles.
Since my Toyotomi was a 10K, I was worried the 8K wouldn't work past the
living room, but with the help of a regular fan, some 9 hours later,
THE ENTIRE 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT is now below 70 degrees!!! We are
ecstatic!
As is typical of portable AC construction, the window
hose and connectors are a bit flimsy, but nothing some $15 3M aluminum
tape can't fix... that tough tape is GOD for lots of other things around
the house that need heat/cold resistant connection one can actually
peel off later, so get it, even if you only need a little for this AC.
But you could probably reinforce everything with duct tape or strong
packing tape.
Recommend getting this little SPT AC if you're like
us, and the apartment window casings are very thin. Our new AC made the
front door with my horridly rough USPS delivery guy and hit the ground
running, no sweat. The apartment is now finally cool after months of
torture :) !
