Just upgraded my slightly older 5,000 BTU Frigidaire unit with this one (specifically model #FFRE06B3Q1)
because my 5k unit was just too noisy for my home office, and couldn't
really keep up with the Florida heat in the summer. At first I just
thought it made so much sloshing and wooshing noises because it was a
"cheap" bottom-of-the-line model. However, now that I have this brand
new 6,000 BTU unit it makes exactly the same noises!! The sloshing is
unacceptable. Do I need to drill a hole?
I've read some other
reviews here where people have recommended drilling a hole in the drip
pan, but others have said that will severely impact the efficiency of
the unit. I honestly don't care about how much electricity it uses at
this point, I need a QUIET machine or else I can't take conference calls
in my office, which is extremely annoying. Any ideas? To drill or not
to drill, that is the question.
By the way, when I opened this
up and ran it for the very first time is was SUPER quiet. Probably
because there was no condensation in the pan. After only a few minutes
(okay, maybe 20-30?) it started with all the sloshing and wooshing. I
guess this is by design, but it sucks as far as noise goes. I'm pretty
sure my unit is tilted back properly. I think all window units are
designed this way or else I would buy another brand. Any ideas?
Now
on the PLUS side, you can't beat the price, and I love the remote
control feature, and the on/off "econ" mode. The unit looks good and
puts out cold air as expected.
