Frigidaire Air Conditioners FFRA0511Q1

This is now my forth (second this summer) window AC Unit (my other 3 are different 5,000 BTUs models and 1 12,000 BTU model). I have loved my other units because they're perfect when you're home alone or only need to cool one part of the house and don't want to run the central air with a costly bill. I live in Central Texas where it can get HOT and it's very difficult to go without AC on days where it reaches 105+. I've tried, but it's rough!

That all being said, this unit, and my previous ones, do exactly what they're advertised to do: Cool a room quickly and save money while doing it. I have never had a problem with either of my previous two units which are over 5 years old and the recent 12,000 BTU unit I got earlier in the summer. I put them in during the Spring and take them out during the Fall and store them appropriately and have never had an issue.

Power/Features

Similarly to my other 5,000 BTU units, this easily cools a 250 square foot room on the ‘7’ (max) cooling setting. The one thing this unit does not come with, since it is cheaper than the other 5,000 BTU units is energy saver mode / a remote. The remote I don’t really care about, but I do miss energy saving mode. Energy saving mode is when you set the degree you want the room and once it gets to that degree, it will automatically shut off until it gets a few degrees higher than turn back on to cool the room off again. This is perfect for sleeping.

This unit does not have this feature, unfortunately at this price point and the main reason I removed a start from the review. The feature really enhances window AC units and I simply miss not having it with this particular unit. A solution to that problem is to get a timer that will automatically shut off after 30 min/an hour/however long you want. I do prefer energy saving mode though and think it’s worth the extra cost.

Installation

The installation of this unit is very similar to that of any AC Window Unit if you have installed one. To install, you simply open your window and put the unit so that it is hanging out so to speak and close the window onto the top of the AC where it will hold on. The unit also provides slides on each side you pull to the edge of your window so that there are no gaps. You can also use weather foam to plug any small holes which is very cheap at a hardware store. The unit comes with areas where you can drill/screw in to keep it in place, but honestly, I just have it sitting there with the unit closed on it. I've never had a problem with the unit falling out or anything like that.

Overall

This is a great unit that does exactly what it is advertised to do. Cool an area at a cheaper cost than running central air. I can't recommend Frigidaire enough. Whether it's this unit or another, I've never had a problem and have saved quite a bit of cash over the years using these units. OCD me will not allow myself to run the central air when I'm the only one home!
